THE ANATOMY OF A PORTRAIT

Because oil as a medium is so sturdy and durable, it takes a little bit more time to complete a pet portrait in oil. What I do first is scan the photos provided by you in a couple of sizes and then I spend some time studying the subject before pencil sketching a rough draft on the canvas. I paint the eyes early on in the process to bring the portrait “alive.” It takes a week or more to complete the painting depending upon the detail involved. Once the portrait is finished and it is signed, I like to allow at least five days for the paint to dry. Then, I cover it with a light varnish to brighten and preserve the colors and details. Then I send it to you!

If you have occasion, it is a good idea to allow at least four weeks from start to finish.

My goal is your complete satisfaction. I take great pride in my portraits and won’t deliver your portrait to you until I am satisfied! I can email you a picture of the portrait before I send it to you, if you wish …

Thanks for visiting my site and I hope to have the opportunity to immortalize your pet in oil!
